Try container gardening
When spring comes everyone seems to get the planting bug. If you have a big yard then you probably have a general idea where are your plants are going to go. You have mapped it out and set a schedule for not only where to plant but what to plant and when. But what if your space is limited, say you live in an apartment with just a porch or balcony or a townhouse with a limited back yard, how are you going to grow anything. Container gardening is made for situations like that, and even if you have a large backyard containers on a deck or patio can only add to the beauty of your yard.
What kind of containers can you use?
Probably the ones that come to mind is the terracotta or ceramic type are the most popular. With any pot you must have a hole in the bottom to allow drainage so the roots wouldn’t rot and you have to have a pot that is large enough for the plants roots to grow.
What should you grow in containers?
Like in ground plants you have to consider if they need a good bit of sunshine or not. Of course the great thing about container gardening is that you can move it to a sunnier place if you need to. While most people only consider flowers to plant, most vegetable do well in containers that gets a lot of sun.
What to fill the container up with?
Check with you local plant nursery and ask for a recommendation for your area. (you might also want to ask about pesticides to control bugs while you are there) Compost and garden soil are often mixed together with sand to fill a container. Also remember that containers dry out quicker than plants in the ground so make sure that they get plenty of water.
